AI-Assisted Documentation Search Just Got Smarter

The AI-powered documentation search on the Alloy Software docs site has been updated, and it’s noticeably better.

We launched AI-assisted doc search back in 2024. The idea was simple: instead of browsing through pages of documentation, you just ask a question in plain language and get a direct answer. No keywords, no guessing which article to open. It worked well, and AI search quickly became the primary way our users (and ourselves!) find answers in the Alloy Software documentation.

Now we’ve made it better! Here’s what changed in March 2026.

Smarter AI model

We upgraded to a significantly more powerful model, which means faster responses and more accurate answers, especially for complex or multi-step questions.

Better structured answers

We’ve refined the way the AI structures its answers — you’ll notice the difference from the very first response.

Previously, the AI would return an answer based on relevant documentation. That worked, but the format wasn’t always consistent, and sometimes you’d get a wall of text when what you really needed was a numbered list of steps.

Now, answers follow a clear structure. You get the direct answer first. If the question is procedural, you get step-by-step instructions. And if there’s a reason behind the behavior — a limitation, a default setting, something that explains why things work the way they do — the AI includes that too, in plain language.

The result is an experience that feels less like a documentation lookup and more like asking a knowledgeable colleague.

Multiline input

Finally, the search field now supports multiline text, so you can type or paste longer, more detailed questions without squeezing everything into a single line. Hit the search icon when ready.

What’s next

The Alloy AI-assisted documentation search is continuously evolving, and we have several improvements in the pipeline.

Chat support. Many users naturally expect a conversation when looking for answers, not just a single response. We’re adding a chat interface to make that possible.
Simpler product selection. We’re also redesigning the product selector to make it more intuitive to get to the right answer.
MCP server. We’re building an MCP server for the Alloy documentation, so you’ll be able to query it directly from AI tools and workflows you already use, without opening the documentation site.
Documentation in AI skills. In the upcoming Alloy Navigator release, the built-in AI Assistant will be able to draw from Alloy documentation as a knowledge source, so end users can get answers without ever leaving the product.
